Bark Park Social Time for Humans and Their Hounds

Dogs need continued socialization throughout their lives. Many dog owners, by attending training classes, take the first step in socializing their dogs. With the Conneaut Lake Bark Park, owners have an opportunity to continue to provide opportunities for their dogs to socialize and play with other dogs of similar temperament and size, while providing a place where their canine companion can participate and play safely with other dogs in several of the off-leash areas.

The Bark Park will work with pet owners and attempt to find groups of dogs that can play together. If the snow ever totally leaves the ground, consider bringing your dog to the bark park and joining a play group. At present we have a group that meets during the morning hours and another group that primarily meets in the late afternoon or week-ends. Both of these groups regularly using the bark park are the larger breed dogs. Dogs of all sizes and breeds can definitely benefit from regular play time with dogs of similar size and temperament. The Bark Park would like to work with all dog owners from puppies to older dogs to establish group play times at the park. .

The first step in using the bark park is to download the three necessary forms for using the park. One form is about the owner, another form about the dog, and the third form, the bark park medical form to be completed by your veterinarian. After you have completed all forms, we will do a temperament screening to see how your dog reacts to other dogs in a dog park setting. A trainer at the bark park does the temperament screenings. When all of the forms are completed, a dog owner can decide the best type of membership for using the park. If you are uncertain as to how you will use the park, simply join as a daily user. You can change your type of membership at any time to meet the needs of the owner and dog. We will then work with the pet owner to decide the best play group for your dog. You will be amazed at the fun the dogs have playing together. Some of our regular users report that as they turn their car onto Foust Road, there is an immediate barking or whining coming from their canine companion as they anticipate arriving at the Bark Park.

Finally, be sure to go online and check out the proper procedures expected when using the bark park facility. Pay special attention to the presence of kids in the play areas, dog treats, play toys, acceptable collar and the ever popular “poop pick-up”. Membership prices are also online.

Remember, the bark park offers several off leash areas for dogs that do not play well with other dogs and owners can always take advantage of any off-leash area, walking trails, the walking area in the woods or any place on the 65 acres. Multi-dog homes can also choose to use one of the areas for their own dogs to have an opportunity to run and play leash free. Finally, we offer a wide variety of summer events with special attention this year to the beginning of dock diving.
